Thomas Maissen

Prof Dr Thomas Maissen holds the chair for early modern history at the University of Heidelberg. Since 2013, he is director of the German Historical Institute in Paris. He has worked on the Renaissance, Reformation, and Humanism and is probably best known for his research on early-modern republicanism and on the Swiss confederacy in particular. He wrote books on Swiss history for a broader audience, and he engaged in research projects on African and Asian history and on global entanglements.
