On the value of the history of ideas for business ethics: A discussion of Plato’s ethics in the modern management context

In this episode of New Work in Intellectual History, Dr Stelios Zyglidopoulos discusses the value of the history of ideas for business ethics by exploring the implications of Plato’s ethics for modern management. Along his article in the Journal of Business Ethics entitled ‘On Becoming and Being an Ethical Leader: A Platonic Interpretation (2021), Stelios explores the applicability of Plato’s concepts of philosopher kings, dialectic and rhetoric in the middle dialogues and his Republic for the selection of ethical leaders in business. 

Dr Stelios Zyglidopoulos is a Professor of Corporate Social Responsibility at Kedge Business School in Marseilles in France. Stelios’ research focusses on aspects of Corporate Social Responsibility, its communication and its role in the internationalization of businesses.
