The J-P Mayer Papers

In 2018, the University of St Andrews acquired the personal archive of Jacob Peter Mayer (1903-1992), the 20th century scholar who, among other things, discovered the unpublished writings of Karl Marx known today as the Economic and Philosophic Manuscripts of 1844. After emigrating to England, he subsequently edited the Gallimard edition of Alexis de Tocqueville’s Oeuvres Complètes. Listen to a lecture by Peter Madill about the life and papers of J-P Mayer.
